Working under Touch Design Group, Ben Huggins led the redesign of a historic city landmark, The Royal Clarence Hotel, Exeter.

The scheme included the reworking of both the champagne bar and fine dining restaurant. Working closely with the head chef and hotel manager, a detailed study of existing catering and delivery systems was used to inform the layout. In response, the creation of open passes facilitated better connection and visibility between the kitchen and dining areas. Interior design services included the curation and procurement of contract and bespoke items for all furniture and fittings to be manufactured by interior specialists Touch Design Group.

Working with the city conservation officer, an interior scheme was developed that would present a modern offering that sat well within its historic context of Cathedral Yard in which the hotel is situated.

Unfortunately the internal aspects of the project did not come to fruition. Externally however, the signage to the front of the hotel was reinstated to its historic position overlooking Catherdral Yard.

Sadly, in 2017 much of the Royal Clarence Hotel was destroyed by fire and is now awaiting major reconstruction.
